ADHESIVES, GLUES AND SEALANTS
In recent years more and more companies from various sectors employ adhesives as a means of bonding and assembly products, in Europe more than 60% of the products manufactured incorporate adhesives at some point of its manufacturing process due to the advantages provided the use of these materials. We can consider the adhesive bonding as the joint technology of the 21st century.
Under these premises born in 2016 German standard DIN 2304 aimed at all those sectors that use adhesives within their processes, based largely on the success and experience obtained from DIN 6701 the railway sector.
DIN 2304 is a consequence of the extended standard global ISO 9000, which defines the special processes those that can not be checked by non-destructive testing, in the case of bonding there is no non-destructive test to check the 100% functionality over time as well as the adhesion of the joint, so it is necessary to develop a quality management system to ensure the process from design to production and maintenance of the adhesive bond.
DIN 2304 establishes 4 types of joints based on their criticality:
So those joints where failure can lead to fatal damage or loss of product functionality are classified as S1, such as adhesive joints that are made in the blades that make wind mills, in case of failure part of the blade is thrown can cause fatal damage and causing a functional failure with consequent shutdown and cost of reparation.
The quality system governing DIN 2304 seeks to ensure the existence of qualified staff both theoretical and practical level that can design, implement, verify and take appropriate decisions to ensure at all times the quality of the adhesive bond personnel. On the other hand the normative check all the processes involved as the design and calculation, validations by aging tests, facilities and means of production and maintenance as well as recording and witness the correct binding by both destructive testing and non-destructive.
It is necessary that all personnel involved in the process of bonding have specific knowledge of each work carried out, studies in this area guarantee that 90% of failures that occur in an adhesive bond is due to lack of knowledge of personnel involved in the project, as well as the normative establishes three levels of training or qualifications depending on the profile or because it develops within the company:
Companies of multiple sectors that manufacture appliances, solar panels, boats, electronic devices, buses, trucks, aircraft, space satellites.... Countless businesses can ensure the quality of adhesive joints giving a seal of guarantee backed by DIN 2304.
